We do not officially recommend any PCs for STELLARWINDOW.

We are now investigating the issue.

STELLARWINDOW use OpenGL heavily, you should use powerful video card for OpenGL 3D rendering. We recommend nvidia video cards than ATI video cards because nvidia cards seem to have better stability of the OpenGL rendering for STELLARWINDOW.

However, STELLARWINDOW has the Lite Mode that is designed for low-spec PCs such as net-book. The Lite Mode does not require high level of 3D rendering. On-chip video is enough for the Lite Mode.

About ig4dev32.dll

ig4dev32.dll is “OpenGL Device Driver for Intel Graphics Accelerator” for  “Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family”.  This is stored in the system folder ( C:\windows\system32\ ) on Windows XP/Vista.

If you use a “Manufacturer made PCs” like Panasonic Let’s note, it seems to be the case that Intel Graphics Accelerator driver is not the latest. In some cases, the maker-dependent drivers’ version is half-year older than original driver.

Way to apply the latest ig4dev32.dll for a specific application.

If you use the latest version of ig4dev32.dll,  ID6 problem is not solved. However, it can solve other OpenGL based applications’ problems.

If the driver is not “Manufacturer-dependent”, just download the latest driver from:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=2991

and update the driver to the latest.

Even if the driver is “Manufacturer-dependent”, you can apply the latest driver to a specific application.

(1) Download the appropriate driver ( .exe file) from above URL.

(2) Extract the driver (.exe file ). Do not execute the file.

(3) You can find ig4dev32.dll and ig4icd32.dll in the extracted Graphics/ folder. Copy them to the base folder of the specific application. ( ex. C:/Program Files/Fairy Devices/StellarWindow/ ).

The specific application preferentially use the driver that is stored in the same folder.

Problem Summary

OpenGL initialization process is failed on some PCs like Panasonic Let’s Note etc, which have “Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family”.

This problem seems not to be only for STELLARWINDOW but for other general applications based on OpenGL.

Cause of the problem

This problem seems to be caused by potential bugs of ig4dev32.dll ( Intel Media Accelarator Driver ).

Way to avoid the problem

Rename C:/windows/system32/ig4dev32.dll to another name ( like ig4dev32.bak.dll. )

ig4dev32.dll has read-only property, so you should:

(1) Right click “ig4dev32.dll” -> property → release “read-only property”  OR

(2) Right click “ig4dev32.dll” -> property -> security -> detailed -> Administrators -> display -> Administrators -> Edit -> Check “FULL CONTROL” -> Click “OK”

to rename the dll.

We confirmed that it may be safe to rename ig4dev32.dll, however, it remains a possibility to cause a system problem. Please note that we can not compensate any system problems or damages caused by the renaming.
